What is SIL

Supported Independent Living explained

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support that funds the staff and assistance you need to live as independently as possible in your own home. SIL covers help with daily tasks such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, medication, and community access - all within a home environment that you control.

Unlike other support models where workers visit for short blocks, SIL provides a consistent team of support workers who are present in the home to assist you throughout the day and night. This creates stability, predictability, and genuine relationships with the people supporting you.

How It Works

Your path to independent living

We make the transition to SIL straightforward and supportive. Here is the journey we take together.

01

Needs Assessment

We conduct a thorough assessment of your support needs, daily living requirements, and personal goals. This helps us determine the right level of SIL support and the best living arrangement for you.

02

Home & Team Selection

We help you choose between individual or shared living and find a home that suits your needs. We then recruit and train a dedicated support team specifically for you.

03

Settlement & Support

We support you through the move-in process and help you settle into your new home. Your support team is there from day one to make the transition smooth and comfortable.

04

Ongoing Development

We continuously work with you to build independence, develop life skills, and adjust supports as your confidence grows. Regular reviews ensure your SIL arrangement evolves with you.

FAQ

SIL questions answered

Everything you need to know about Supported Independent Living under the NDIS.

SIL (Supported Independent Living) funds the support workers who help you with daily tasks in your home. SDA (Specialised Disability Accommodation) funds the physical building or home itself. Many participants use both - SDA for an accessible home and SIL for the support staff within it.

Absolutely. We take compatibility very seriously. We involve you in the matching process and consider personality, lifestyle, support needs, and preferences to find housemates that will be a good fit. Your comfort and safety are the priority.

Your SIL funding is determined by the NDIS based on your support needs assessment. Hours can range from a few hours per day to 24/7 support, depending on your individual circumstances and what is approved in your NDIS plan.

Yes, we support participants with a wide range of needs, including complex behaviours and medical requirements. Our staff are trained in positive behaviour support, medication management, and complex care. We will assess your needs to ensure we can provide the right level of support.

We regularly review your support plan and adjust as your needs evolve. If your needs increase significantly, we can request a plan review with the NDIS to adjust your SIL funding. Our goal is to ensure your support always matches your requirements.

Yes, absolutely. SIL is designed to build your independence, not trap you in place. Many participants transition to lower levels of support or independent living as their skills and confidence grow. We support you at every stage.

SIL funding covers the cost of support workers and their assistance. It does not cover rent, utilities, groceries, or other everyday living expenses. Those costs are managed separately through your regular income or other NDIS supports.
